Mngqithi Provides Update on Injured Sundowns Defender

Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Manqoba Mngqithi, has provided an injury update on defender Mothobi Mvala.

Last Friday, 15 November, Mnqithi featured for the South African national men’s team when they beat Uganda 2-0 in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

However, he was absent from the Bafana Bafana squad that defeated South Sudan 3-0 on Tuesday, 19 November, reportedly due to a hand injury.

Ahead of Sundowns’ Carling Knockout Cup final against Magesi FC, Mngqithi informed journalists during a pre-match press conference that the 30-year-old defender is expected to be fit to play in the game despite his injury.

“We did get feedback on Mothobi. It’s just an injury in the hand, and it’s not something that can take him out from playing in the final,” the 53-year-old tactician explained.

Mamelodi Sundowns are set to face Magesi FC tomorrow night, Saturday 23 November, at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, Free State. It remains to be seen if Mvala will start or even come off the bench for the final.
